Orlando was a track and field athlete, joined the National Team at various levels, has been national champion several times as well as held several records. He was also linked to teaching, teaching the discipline of physical education in the schools of Quarteira and Albufeira.

He is currently a triathlon and para-triathlon coach and coordinator, adapted swimming assistant coach at FC Ferreiras and coach in the Special 21 project developed at the Albufeira Municipal Swimming Pools.

In September 2018, Orlando took over the role of adapted swimming coach in place of the specialized coach, and found that he had a natural aptitude to motivate this group of athletes in swimming, eventually becoming the assistant coach at the request of the athletes and their parents.
