The Adapted Swimming Teams of “Natação de Faro” and “Futebol Clube de Ferreiras” have swimmers belonging to various competition classifications from motor disability to intellectual disability, as well as swimmers with Down Syndrome, whose classification is recognised in Portugal, but not in the classification of the Paralympic Committee.
To expand their teams, clubs need to create ways to inspire young swimmers with disabilities from various parts of their councils to join.
In Albufeira, with the creation of SPECIAL 21 projects in collaboration with the schools, Futebol Clube de Ferreiras is able to attract young people with talent to develop above average swimming skills.
With the support and employment of qualified coaches, focussed on the training of these young people, the Club has kept its athletes in various competitions at national and regional level.
