Sonia was invited to become a Director of Futbol Club de Ferreiras in 2014 and took over the Vice Presidency of other Club modalities, including Swimming. Sonia is always available to embrace the projects proposed by the coaches to grow the sport and in 2015 she started the Adapted Swimming Section at the Club, which quickly led to several projects involving young people with disabilities.

This is how SPECIAL 21 was born, a project aimed at giving a voice to swimmers with Trisomy 21 in creating their own classification recognised by the authorities.

Sonia has now focused on all Adapted swimming projects and events in the SPECIAL 21 campaign, promoting Adapted Swimming for all, focused on giving young people with disabilities the opportunity to learn how to swim in Albufeira and beyond.
