Cyril and his wife Kristina moved to the Algarve, Portugal in 2014, having first enjoyed the Portuguese lifestyle and particularly golf in the early 2000s.

During his Laranjal Golf Club Captaincy in Quinta do Lago, from 2015 to 2017, Cyril became actively involved with the Down Syndrome Swimmers of Clube de Ferreiras and helped develop the Special21 project, along with Sónia Demétrio and António Colaço.

Cyril continued his involvement in the various projects that provide opportunities for children with disabilities to “Learn to Swim” and his main objective is to persuade the International Paralympic Committee to establish a specific classification for Down Syndrome elite swimmers.
